Dame Margot Hamilton

The Dowager Countess of Richborough

Welcome to the website of the Private Office of the Dowager Countess of Richborough, Dame Margot Hamilton; philanthropist, equal rights activist and entertainment personality.

Here you will find information about Dame Margot's life, work, writings and activities.

Please feel free to browse through the site and to contact Dame Margot and certainly be kind enough to leave a message in the Guestbook!

Dame Margot has performed with a variety of celebrities including Dora Bryan (Brighton's Theatre Royal), Dame Felicity Lott (Guildhall, London), Graham Norton (VIP Tent Purple in the Park), Julian Clary (Royal Enclosure Brighton Pride), Leo Sayer (30th Anniversary in Showbiz Concert), 4 Poofs & a Piano (Brighton Comedy Festival) as well as a host of other professional appearances including fringe festivals, recitals and theatre.  In 2003 she played Lady Bracknell in the Brighton Festival production of "The Importance of Being Earnest" to great acclaim (reviewed by the Oscar Wilde Society)!  Dame Margot is also Patron of the Brighton & Hove (Actually) Gay Men's Chorus with whom she performs to sell-out audiences every year at their Annual Pride concert!

Dame Margot has for several years performed at Pride in Brighton & Hove, leading the parade, playing host to the VIP and Member's Areas including organising entertainment and for two years the Cabaret stage at the Sunday Street Party.  As well, Dame Margot has been a keen fundraiser for Pride in Brighton & Hove and combined with her efforts for other charitable bodies has successfully raised over £70'000 in fundraising activities over the past five years!  She has appeared on stages, on broadcast debates, a variety of fundraising events and in recitals and concerts!  Despite her age, Dame Margot is exceptionally sprightly - for two consecutive years she accompanied Sir Ian McKellen on the 10Km Stonewall Equality Walks in Brighton!

Dame Margot is a regular performer on the Cabaret Circuit around the country from Brighton and the South Coast to Wales in the West and has been spotted as far north as "The North" and Scotland!  Offering something quite alternative to the usual 'run of the mill drag' predominant on the Circuit, Dame Margot offers herself as a refreshing change - light hearted banter, outrageous memories and the unique perspective of an "over 60 something" who has "seen it all"!  Appearing as a grand dame of the theatre but sounding like your favourite aunt or grandma... a resident artist in two cabaret venues in Brighton - Dame Margot is a hit with a wide variety of audiences!  From corporate events to gala opera recitals...pubs to clubs, versatile doesn't come into it!
